This command can be tricky because your dog must maintain his balance on his hind quarters. Some dogs
simply won't be able to do it because of their size, weight, or other reasons. Simply try until you are certain he
can't. And if he can't, he just can't. You'll have to try another trick instead.
STEP 1. First, try to lure your dog up into the position after giving the command "Beg". (He should
sit up, trying to get to the treat.) If this is
successful, reward immediately after his position is set, and continue practicing this way.
STEP 2. If he jumps up or falls over, try this. Move in behind him. Command "Beg" and gently lift his
paws from behind until he is in the begging position. Reward after a few seconds.
STEP 3. After your dog is completely used to this, then try again to lure him up from the front, while
commanding "Beg".
STEP 4. Give a fantastic reward/praise if he is successful!
